Roy Max Morrison

Roy Max Morrison, 93, of Patoka, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at The Waters of Princeton. He was born on July 25, 1924 in Patoka to Roy and Charlotte Pearl (Barnes) Morrison. He graduated from Patoka High School in 1942 and then served in WWII in the US Army Air Corp-451st bomber group 15th Air Force (stationed in Fuji, Italy as a radar repairman) from 1942-1945. His remembrance of his military service can be found at the Library of Congress Veterans Project. (It was recorded in his voice along with other members of the VFW around the country). He was a supervisor for lineman at the former Princeton Telephone Company, Contel and Verizon for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose and a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the VFW color guard and military funeral detail for many years, attending over 800 military funerals. He had been a volunteer with the Patoka Fire Dept. and spent many years as the Mayor of Patoka. Max enjoyed dancing and received trophies from many contests he entered. He loved gardening, camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was the President of the Morrison Family Reunion committee for many years (it celebrated 124 years in 2015). He also loved to bake and cook and called himself the “carnival cook” He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris Evelyn Morrison of Patoka; 2 daughters, Terri Lee Hurst of Evansville and Cindy Lou Morrison of Princeton; 2 grandchildren, Amanda Charlotte Hurst and Dustin Richard Hurst both of Evansville; 6 great grandchildren, Eli Bishop, Lydia Hurst, Lauren Hurst, Grace McFadden, Colten Hurst and Layla Hurst; brother, Paul Morrison of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Morrison; and sisters, Mary Louise Morrison, Violet Cargel and Nettie Dossett. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by Rev. Larry Meadows. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Patoka. Visitation will be from 12 until 2 pm on Sunday at Colvin Funeral Home. Military graveside services by Retired Military Veterans.
