Allen W. Nelson, 70, of Winslow passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at his home. He was born February 20, 1949 in Huntingburg, IN to the late, Samuel J. and Lela I. (Bottoms) Nelson. He lived in Pike County all of his life and graduated from Winslow High School and then attended a Purdue Surveying Class. He was a Surveyor for the State Highway Dept. prior to going into the Army. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1969 to 1971 during the Vietnam Era. He retired after 39 years, from Old Ben Coal Company as a Drilling and Shooting Supervisor in 2011. He was a former member of the Society of Explosive Engineers. He enjoyed outdoors, deer hunting and began fishing from a young age. He was a member of the Pike County Bassmasters.
Allen is survived by his wife, Cheryl Nelson of Winslow; 2 children, Dan Nelson (Dana) of Evansville and Scott Nelson (Kaitlyn) of Petersburg; 3 grandsons, Xavier, Eric and Scott; 1 granddaughter on the way, Allyse; and a sister, Connie Gilmore of Vincennes.
Private graveside services will be held. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 pm (Oakland City time) on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City. Military graveside services will be provided by the Retired Military Veterans.
