Jerry Don “Snake” Scott, 76, of Princeton, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 in the comfort of his home in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by his family and friends and under the care of Respite Care in Louisville, Kentucky.
Jerry was born on July 26, 1942 in Evansville, IN to the late Mary (Hickrod) Scott and Roy Henry Scott. He was a graduate of Princeton Community High School where he was remembered as an outstanding athlete and earned the name “Snake” and “Snake Hogan”. After high school he pursued a career in baseball where he signed with the Baltimore Orioles. Jerry will be remembered by many from his performances in high school playing football, basketball and baseball. Jerry retired from Norfolk- Southern Railroad where he was an engineer for many years.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Jesse and Della Hickrod; son, David Scott; and his granddaughter, Savanna Scott.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Schmidt) Scott; son, J.D. Scott; daughter, Debbie Scott; daughter-in-law, Kelly (Stone) Scott; stepdaughters, Cheri Turner (Bruce) and Beth Bersot (John); grandchildren, Danielle Scott, Jerry Scott, Tori Scott, Sam Scott, Kara Scott, Garrett Scott, Cole Turner, Chase Turner and Matthew Bersot; and a brother, Larry Allen Scott.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2018 at Colvin Funeral Home, 425 North Main St., Princeton, IN 47670, officiated by Jim Morrow. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Ft. Branch. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the “Princeton Dollars for Scholars” where a young athlete can receive a scholarship in honor of Jerry “Snake” Scott.
