Judith Kolb Obituary

Judith Andree (Scott) Kolb, 78 of Patoka passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at her home. She was born March 14, 1940 in Mt. Carmel to Paul Ewing and Mary Alice (Carrell) Scott.

She grew up on the farm in Owensville, with her parents and three siblings. Judy enjoyed her childhood, riding her pony, Topsy, to her grandparents, William and Lillian (Benson) Scott, who lived just up the road. She also enjoyed her neighbors, Joe and Irene Dyson. Her favorite dog, Happy, was with her on many of those visits. She also enjoyed visits to Mt. Carmel to see her maternal grandparents, Benjamin “Wilson” and Bertha (Kays) Carrell. She attended Owensville Schools graduating at the end of her junior year.

She then married Jim Kolb and began college at Indiana State University. She completed her teaching degree at Oakland City College, while raising four young children. She earned her Master’s Degree at the University of Evansville, which completed her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. She began teaching at Oakland City Elementary School, Owensville Grade School and Ft. Branch Elementary School. The relationships and bonds she formed with fellow teachers, staff, cooks and custodians were lifelong friendships she treasured.

Judy’s greatest joys were her kids, grandkids and dogs. As a grandma of 6, whom she was proud of and loved dearly, Judy loved being a Grandma Kolb, with her apron on and keeping the grandchildren every Friday evening after school.  As the great grandchildren came along, that added more excitement to the mix.  She and Jim were blessed with 9 great grandchildren.

Judy was a member of the Union Bethel Presbyterian Church and was a long time church pianist. She was a former member of the Gibson General Hospital Auxiliary.

Judy is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim Kolb; children, Kathleen Susan (Kolb) Meeks (Dennis) of Owensville, Jacqueline Ann Kolb of Arlington, TX, Jill Elizabeth (Kolb) Embree (Matthew) of Patoka; 6 grandchildren, Daniel Meeks (Deanna), Natalie Reffett, Zachary Kolb (Jenny), Heath Kolb (Hallie), Bobby Embree and Katie Sue Embree; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Phil Scott; and 2 sisters, Jane Braselton and Tammy Scott.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, James Herdis Kolb II on Feb. 11, 2013.

At Judy’s request there will be no visitation or service. She will be cremated and her remains will be interred at Decker Cemetery near Patoka and Benson Cemetery near Owensville. The Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton is honored to be assisting the Kolb family with the arrangements.
