Marvin Barton Obituary

Marvin R. Barton, age 82 of Oatsville, IN passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born on leap day, February 29, 1936 in Nebo, KY to the late Howard and Mary (Gunter) Barton.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue Ellen (Atkinson) Barton; son Derek K. Barton of Oatsville, IN and his girlfriend Gloria J. Reinhart and her son, James from Fort Branch, IN; stepmother, Bonnie Barton of Princeton, IN; brothers Bobby Barton (Pat) of Bargersville, IN and Jason of Brownsburg, IN; sisters, Nancy Spates of Hueytown, AL and Amy Wright (Greg) of Fort Branch, IN; stepsister, Shirley Foster (Bruce) of Haubstadt, IN; sister-in-law, Rita Barton of Fort Branch, IN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Gloria Huey of Sandborn, IN; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his dog, Bella.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin Barton and father and mother in-law, Lestle and Ruth (Swain) Atkinson.

Marvin graduated from Mt. Olympus High School in 1955 and later served as vice president and president of the Mt. Olympus Alumni Association. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1961 as a Military Policeman. He was a member of Mt. Tabor General Baptist Church where he served for many years as trustee and Sunday School Superintendent. Marvin was employed by Whirlpool Corporation in Evansville, IN for 12 years and retired from Amax Coal Company, Wabash Mine in Keensburg, IL where he worked for 22 ½ years and was a member of United Mine Workers Local 1791. Marvin enjoyed feeding and watching birds, watching westerns, listening to country and gospel music, traveling, mowing and going to flea markets and the Indiana State Fair.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, IN with Pastor Wesley Haas officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg, IN. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, IN and again from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday. All times Central Daylight Time. Military Graveside services will be conducted by Retired Military Veterans.
