Raymond Norman Schaefer, Jr., 85, of Springfield, MO passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Glendale Gardens Nursing Home in Springfield. He was born February 28, 1933 in Michigan City, IN to Raymond N. and Irene Harriett (Levendowski) Schaefer. He had lived in Fort Branch, IN for 50 years before moving to Missouri 7 years ago. He was a union boilermaker. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the medical division. Ray was a Mr. America and a Mr. Universe in 1956.
He is survived by his 2 children, Beverly Schaefer and John Schaefer, both of Hammond, IN; 3 stepchildren, Dan Culbertson of Springfield, MO, Cheryle Jaggers of Cottontown, TN and Melissa Brandt of Florence, TX; 7 step grandchildren; and 6 step great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alma Jean Schaefer on April 11, 2018; son, Raymond Schaefer III; stepson, Steve Culbertson; and 2 sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at Providence Cemetery near Francisco, officiated by Cheryle Jaggers. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Burial will follow the service.
