Warren Hurst Obituary

Warren I. Hurst, 87 passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. He was born March 12, 1932 in Princeton to Ira Newton and Edith (Adkins) Hurst.

He had lived in Princeton all of his life. He was a Tool and Die Engineer and worked for Hurst Manufacturing for several years.  He also was an instructor and taught Machine Shop to underprivileged young adults in the St. Louis area, something he was very proud of doing.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Vertical Church in Fort Branch, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Patoka Masonic Lodge.

Warren was an inventor.   He invented the Water Witch trolling motor with a patent pending. He invented an ink pin that had the ability to fire a 22 caliber shell. He built trike motorcycles out of Volkswagen automobiles and enjoyed flying radio controlled model airplanes.

He is survived by his daughter, Anita Simpson (Jerry) of Owensville; grandson, Andrew York (Romina) of Germany; and 2 great grandchildren, Lukas and Lily York; step grandchildren, Jason Garrison (Amber) and Scott Garrison; step great grandchildren, Dakota and Tucker Garrison; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Hurst and son Gary Hurst; siblings, Leslie and Donald Hurst, Virginia Weber and Anna Mae Willey.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Steve Akins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery near Princeton. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m.  Military services will be provided at the graveside by the Retired Military Veterans.
