William Paul (Bill) Sokeland, 81, of Oakland City, IN, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. He was born July 10, 1938 in Princeton, IN, grew up in Oakland City, and retired there. Bill was a lifetime member of the Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Oakland City and a member of the Oakland City Masonic Lodge #467, F&AM. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan, and a Master's Degree in Engineering from Purdue University. Among other projects, he worked for NASA as a thermodynamic engineer and developed a heat transfer system for Sky Lab. After retirement, he became a severe weather researcher and scientific author.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherri Kaiser, and two granddaughters, Emma and Sophie Kaiser, of Berkeley, CA; two sisters, Susy Price and Sandy Hicks, both of Lebanon, IN; and one brother, Brett Bell, of Oakland City.
He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Sokeland, and mother, Blanche (Corn) Bottom.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 am (CST) on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City, with Dr. Douglas Low officiating.
The family suggests that anyone wishing to make a gift send flowers for the service or make a donation in William's name to the Good Shepherd Methodist Church.
