Benjamin Michel, Sr. Obituary

Benjamin Walter Michel, Sr., 80, of Princeton, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He was born July 13, 1940 in Fort Branch to the late Benjamin John Michel and Gladys (Gardner) Michel. He served in the United States Navy from 1957 until 1961 and worked as a coal miner in Keensburg until retirement. Benjamin was a member of the Free Mason Columbia Lodge 450, Hadi Shrine Temple of Evansville, Scottish Rite of Evansville and the VFW POST 1114. He attended the Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton. He was a gun enthusiast, reloader, loved fishing and was known in his family as the master of the grill. He loved traveling with his family making special stops for historical landmarks. He could entertain any crowd with his story telling abilities and enjoyed getting to be with the whole Michel family every year for their reunions. Benjamin was loved by many and leaves behind good memories for many to cherish for years to come.

Benjamin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Ayers) Michel of Princeton; children, Benjamin Michel, Jr. of Princeton and Carla Michel (Monty) of Ora Valley, Arizona; grandchildren, Camie Michel (Gilley) of Terre Haute, “Inky” Gary John Michel of Haubstadt, Benjamin Michel III of Haubstadt, Shannon Ankeny of Tucson, Arizona, and “Ali” Ankeny of Tucson, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Levi and Liam Fleming, Landon Beadles, Aaden Michel, Jacob Michel, and Brentley Michel; and siblings, Sharron Gwaltney and Carl Ray Michel. Numerous special cousins, nieces and nephews that were so important to Benjamin also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Kay Michel.

A celebration of Mr. Michel’s life will be held at a later date.
