Beverley "Bev" Riley Obituary

Beverley “Bev” Ann (Miller) Riley, 84, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville. She was surrounded by her family, as she often was, as their matriarch. Bev was born October 20, 1940, and graduated from Mt. Olympus High School. She was married to the love of her life, George (Sr) for 57 years and was a God-fearing woman who loved Jesus. She had been a member of Clark’s Chapel Church for over 50 years where she was a song leader and Sunday School teacher. She also loved attending services at Victory Community Church in Vincennes.

Bev was affectionately known to her family as “Granny” and was a PB&J making machine. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed their frequent visits to Granny’s and spent time riding 4-wheelers or horses, fishing, jumping on the trampoline, swimming in the pond, pool, or creek, and so many other adventures together. She made her home a retreat and it was often a second home for her grandchildren. She never had a shortage of Tang or cappuccino mix. She made the best biscuits with eggs, gravy, and sauerkraut. She could also tell the best “scary” stories while the grandkids devoured Pap’s giant green bowl of popcorn or her popcorn balls. She was dearly loved by all and will be missed by so many.

Bev is survived by her children, George “Buddy” Riley, Jr. (Karen), Sheri Marshall (Malcom), Jim Riley (Lori), and Debbie Schmits  (Tim); grandchildren, BJ (Beth), Joshua, Dawn, Aron (Jennifer), Michael (Morgan), Christopher, Tristan (Mallory), Kaden, Allison, Owen, Lane, Makayla (Tyler), Zachary, Cory (Kelsey), Mark (Amber), Timmy (Shelby), and Kimberly (Will); 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Betty (Mac), Carol, Robert, John (Ingrid), Dan (Sabrina), and Jerry (Cathy); sisters-in-law, Judy, Jane, and Barbara; and friend, Mary Cromer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Helen (Short) Miller; beloved husband of 57 years, George Loren Riley, Sr.; son, Timmy Riley; daughter, Tammy Hillyard; granddaughter, Lauren Grace; siblings, Charlie, Jim, Gene, Jack, Terry, and Gary; brothers-in-law, John and Jack Riley and John Weathers; sisters-in-law, Becky Miller and Linda Riley; and friend Meridene Maikranz.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Mackey Church of the Nazarene with Apostle BJ Riley officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery near Francisco. Visiting hours will be from 11:00 until the service time Monday at the church.
