Bobby Fears Obituary

Bobby Joe Fears, 89, of Mt. Olympus, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Brickyard Healthcare in Petersburg. He was born October 21, 1934 in Union to the late William Roy Fears and Phoebe Ann (White) Fears.

Bobby was a 1953 graduate of Hazleton High School where he lettered in basketball for 4 years. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1961 and worked as a brakeman for Norfolk Southern Railway for 21 years. He previously worked for Hansen Manufacturing and for Graham Development Oil Production. Bobby married Linda Lee (Hale) Fears on July 21, 1961 and they’ve celebrated 62 years together. He served as Past Master of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of Hazleton Masonic Lodge and later the Patoka Masonic Lodge. Bobby was a member of the American Legion Post #25 and enjoyed spending time at the Sullivan’s Grocery and Diner in Union. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, gardening, and mushroom hunting. He was loved dearly and will be missed.

Bobby is survived his wife, Linda Lee Fears of Mt. Olympus; children, B.J. Fears of Mt. Olympus and Michael Fears (Angela) of Mt. Olympus; grandchildren, Alissa Wallace (James) of Allen, TX, Hannah Fears of Scottsdale, AZ, and Eli Fears of Mt. Olympus; and great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Willem Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ivan, Eugene, Billy, Jesse, and Donald Fears; and 2 infant siblings, Charlotte and Robert Fears.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 23, 2024 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton officiated by Pastor Mitch Breidenbaugh. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus where members of the Retired Military Veterans will conduct full military rites. Visiting hours will be held from 4 until 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

For those who wish, memorial contributions can be made to Little Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 2817 N County Road 700 W, Petersburg, IN 47567. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Joe’s family would like to thank the caring staff at Brickyard Healthcare for the love and care they showed during his stay. They would also like to thank Aseracare Hospice for the kindness and support for Joe and the family.
