Charlene A. Thompson

Charlene A. Thompson, 92, of California formerly Mt. Carmel, IL was called home November 1, 2023. She was born August 23, 1931 in Mt. Carmel, IL to the late Charles Albert Thompson and Gertrude Susanne Thompson. Charlene graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1949 then attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She practiced as a RN at many places over the years including Mt. Carmel Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, Hospitals in Cheyanne, WY, and around the Bay area of CA. Charlene enjoyed tending her garden, traveling around the US, and taking cruses in the Caribbean. She would often reminisce on her favorite trip with her special friend Pat when they drove to Alaska. Charlene was loved by many and will deeply be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Marcella Boyd, Ida Thompson, Ralph Thompson, Paul Thompson, Cornelia Thompson, and Norma Recker; and special friend, Pat Reardon.

Charlene is survived by her siblings, Maxine Benevides and Phyllis (John) Kissel; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at St. Mary Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, IL officiated by Father Robert Zwilling. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held from 10 until 11 AM at the church on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions can be made American Cancer Society, envelopes will be available at the church.
