Clayborn Fortner Obituary

Clayborn A. Fortner, 85, of Princeton passed away February 28, 2024. He was born in Mount Carmel, IL on October 1, 1938 to the late George Cecil “Dutch” Fortner and Sarah (Shelby) Fortner. Clayborn was a proud Army veteran. He retired from Snap on tools after 25+ years. Clayborn was a member of the Princeton Art Guild. He taught art classes at the Gibson County council on aging, also known as the senior center. Clayborn enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting in earlier years, watching Star trek on TV, and enjoying breakfast at Bob Evans where they always knew what he wanted without asking. He loved creating art, making murals, creating frames for his works of art, selling his art pieces, and participating in art shows. Clayborn was a loving father, grandfather, and friend who will be truly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael “Mike” Fortner; grandson, Michael Paul Fortner; siblings, DeElla Genevia Thompson, Roscoe Fortner, Cecil “Buster” Fortner, Kenneth Fortner, Juanita Askren, and Hazel Wininger.

Clayborn is survived by his children, William (Shirley) Fortner, Jon (Christi) Fortner, Karen Jenkins, Buddy Fortner, and Sarah (John) Evans; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way; siblings, Goldie Perry and Charlotte Reed.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. Interment will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Francisco, IN where members of the Retired Military Veterans will conduct full military rites. Visiting hours will be held from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
