Connie Lasley Obituary

Connie A Lasley, 71, of Owensville left this earth on Monday, July 7, 2025 to join her beloved husband Ernie in heaven. She was at home surrounded by loved ones daily during her final journey home.

Connie was born December 28, 1953 in Ohio. She was the daughter of Waldron “Barny” and Marcella Cooper. At a young age her family returned to West Virginia where she was raised in the hills and hollers, as dad would call her a ridge runner, on her family’s farm. Connie met Ernie while at work and he chased her until she finally gave in to his charm. As Ernie used to tell the story he brought her back to Indiana to meet his family, at which time he told her to marry him or walk back to West Virginia. They married May 18, 1973 starting their journey together to build a family raising two children and making loving memories.

Connie was a very devoted wife, loving mother, and hard-working woman. She worked many years at Mid-States Rubber, Product Action, and visiting nurses before finding a passion in private sitting helping those in need. Connie was very supportive in her role as a military and firefighters’ wife. She was often said to be able to work circles around that half her age and often proved it, even much later in life after cancer stole some of her life’s pleasures. Connie did not let it slow her down or defeat her. She continued to fight to enjoy life and spend time with those she loved until the very end.

In her spare time, she enjoyed making beautiful crafts that she shared with others; making headstone saddles, wall, and home decor. She was very talented in being able to make something out of nothing. Connie enjoyed feeding the wild life, especially the hummingbirds, which would flood her back yard bringing her enjoyment. She loved to garden, plant flowers, and being outdoors in the summer time. Connie maintained her landscaping and enjoyed mowing her own lawn, which her children often got criticized for allowing their elderly mother to do. There was no dragging her off the lawnmower to help her as she enjoyed making her yard look beautiful, nor could anyone match her standard of perfection. In the fall she enjoyed watching her two children play co-ed softball, being their teams’ biggest cheerleader and arguer of bad calls made. Occasionally she would fill-in on the team, even at the age of 60, much to her children’s protest afraid she would get hurt, she proved to the whole team she still had it. Connie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren going to sporting games, out to lunch, and thrift shopping. Her children would often give her a hard time about loving her dog (Misty, Star, and Sugar) more than them. She would bake a whole chicken just for the dog and they would even occupy a spot on her answering machine as part of the family.

Later in life she started attending church at First Christian Church of Owensville finding her way to the lord and getting baptized on April 5, 2011. Connie loved her church family and formed many lasting friendships there. She met her special friend Carl Michel; they enjoyed spending time together and traveling to new adventures. Connie found her way to The Center in Gibson County where she reconnected with old friends and formed many new friendships with a group of amazing people. She especially loved eating meals there, join in on their planned trips, and just socializing. Connie often bragged on the entire staff at The Center and how well it was run, especially Ronda Colberts role in planning.

She is survived by one son, Rodney “Scott” Lasley and wife Paula of Princeton; one daughter, Kimberly Hutton of Petersburg; six grandchildren, Chris (Danielle) Lasley, Kayley (Brandon) Thomas, Ryan (Kerilynn) Lasley, Aly (Jaiden) Scott, Dakota (Tabitha) Hutton, and Kayce (Blake) Marsh; six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Xzander, and Jayleigh Thomas, Sawyer and Turner Lasley, Ryker Marsh; three brothers, Arnold (Bamma) Cooper, Roger (Sue) Cooper, and Ronald (Lisa) Cooper; and two sisters, Sharon Griffith and Dianna Cooper-Boone.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Lasley; parents, Waldron “Barney” and Marcella Cooper; sister, Juanita Cooper; and estranged brother, Robert (Dolly) Cooper.
