Cora Jane (Butts) Mays, 75, of Hazleton, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh with family at her side. She was born March 13, 1947 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Clifford Ray and Nancy Jane (Young) Butts. She lived in rural Hazleton for the past 30 years and had previously worked at Rural King and Tobacco Road. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading and was an animal lover taking in local strays. She was a fan of NASCAR and the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers. Besides her deep love of family and animals, Cora had the biggest heart and was known for her laughter that will be remembered by all. Her love of creating and reminiscing memories was her greatest hobby. She touched many lives by everyone she met.
Cora is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harold of Hazleton, to whom she was married October 26, 1968; children, Jane (Mays) Ritchie (Brian) of Princeton, Jesse Mays of Hazleton and Dawn (Mays) Wade (Jeromy) of Owensville; grandchildren, Beth Bajzath, Jessica (Bajzath) Carey (Ryan), Colton Bajzath (Melissa), Heath and Hailey Bonney, Kyle Wade (Leandra), Kameron Wade (Megan) and Mika (Hartley) Dunn; 9 great grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Ray and Nancy Jane (Young) Butts; son, Darryl Ray Mays in 1992; and in-laws, Valley and Geneva Mays.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Ron Marsh officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
