Cynthia Schrodt Obituary

Cynthia Kay (Wallis) Schrodt, age 73, passed on to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 17, 1951 in the old Gibson General Hospital to James M. and Mary Helen Wallis. Cindy graduated from Princeton High School in 1969.

Cynthia’s greatest joy was being a mom and watching her children, Jennifer and David, become adults and find their paths in life. Jennifer was born January 25, during the blizzard of 1978, and David was born on May 7, 1982.

In 1976, Cindy began working for North Gibson School Corporation in the Athletic office and teachers’ prep area at the high school. From there she moved to the principal’s office. On July 11, 1992, she married Steve Schrodt and, three years later, resigned her position at PCHS to finish her BA degree in Education at USI in Evansville. She loved the challenge of going back to college and being successful in her classes. Though an older student, Cindy became a member of Sigma Tau Delta Golden Key Honor Sorority on USI’s campus. She graduated from USI in Spring of 1998.

Upon graduation from USI, she was hired to set up and teach the first-ever Adult Secondary Credit Education Program for North Gibson School Corp. It was a difficult but extraordinarily fulfilling job. She developed 17 different classes to enable adults to return to school and complete their diploma. There were many exciting and satisfying moments with the adults. When the program was closed, she was moved to the high school where she taught Television Production and English 11.

Her community commitments included: appointed to the Princeton Planning Commission in May of 1998; she became a member of the Board of Directors of Gibson County Adult Literacy Program and served as secretary while teaching North Gibson Schools ASC; and was a member of the S.I.N.E. Coalition. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher’s Sorority from 2002-2019. She was privileged to be a member of Princeton Police Dept. Merit Board since its inception in 2016 and served as the board Secretary until her resignation in October 2023.

Cynthia was a lifetime member of Princeton Presbyterian Church (formerly United Presbyterian Church) where she was baptized and served on the Board of Elders and as Clerk of Session.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, James M. & Mary Helen (Armstrong) Wallis; grandparents, Mose H. and Eunice S. Wallis, and Helena and Jack Forsythe; uncle, Charles Ray Armstrong; her in-laws, Charles and Rowena Schrodt; and her son-in-law, Brandon Myers.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Steven Allen Schrodt; her very precious children, Jennifer Elaine Smith Myers and David Jason Smith (Stephanie); and the glorious light in her life, her grandchildren, Zoey Lynne Smith and baby girl, Madison Kay Smith. Also surviving are her two brothers, Alan Jay (Eileen) of Craigsville, VA and Stephen Ray (Brooke) of Ft. Myers, FL; her beloved cousin, Earline (Dave) Rode and family; nieces; Stephanie Lea Wallis Kreutner, Mallory L. Wallis, Carrie A. Wallis Ross, Andrea N. Wallis; and nephews; Ryan S. Wallis and Jameson R. Wallis. Other survivors include in-laws, Jan Kee, Kath (Mike) Nelson, Trace Lowe, and their families, all of Illinois.

Cynthia’s ashes will be buried in Archer Cemetery on Princeton’s north side in a private family ceremony.
