Deloris C. Camp, 83 of Oakland City, IN passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakland City. She was born on January 3, 1941 in Danville, IL to the late Rev. Don and Tabitha Scarlett. Deloris married James Camp in 1972 and he also preceded her in death.
She became a L.P.N. in 1970. Prior to retiring in 2004, she had a long career in healthcare. Deloris traveled for 22 years in 38 states. Her responsibilities were many including, setting up and writing programs for Alzheimer’s and Hospice care units in nursing facilities.
Deloris sat on a committee to raise funds for Alzheimer’s prior to Evansville becoming affiliated with the Louisville Chapter. She also served on the Education Committee with the Indianapolis Chapter. Deloris worked at the McCurdy Residential Center for 10 years. She served as Director of Nursing for 5 years and became its biggest cheerleader, working in marketing and public relations. One of her greatest pleasures was working for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital as Admissions Liaison and Public Relations. Deloris loved the concept of long-term acute care. Above everything else, Deloris showed an unwavering devotion to her family.
She served in many positions at Good Shepherd UM Church where she was a member. Deloris was adult and children’s Sunday school teacher, council member, and chancel choir member. She treasured her church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; son, Larry Michael Beasley; brothers, Ronald, John, Donald, Bob, and James Scarlett; sister, Doris Woolsey; step-son, Gary Camp; and step-grandson, Jeff Davis.
Surviving Deloris are 2 sons, Max Eugene Beasley (Sherri) and Stephen Beasley (Shannon Dillon); sisters, Ruth Hammersley and Becky Scarlett; brother Paul Scarlett (Elaine); siblings-in-law, Maurice Woolsey and Lynda Scarlett; 7 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 am on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 210 Harrison St., Oakland City, IN 47660, with Dr. Douglas Low officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home and from 9 am until service time on Saturday at the church.
