Dixie (Fritz) Wira Roettger, 80, of Oakland City, IN was called home to the Lord Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. She was born February 24, 1944 in Princeton, IN to the late Ermel Fritz and Mary (Mattox) O’Neal. Dixie graduated from Mackey High School in 1962. She worked as a secretary for Mackey School for 5+ years. Dixie went on to work as a CNA and caregiver for the local nursing home and various home health companies for 15+ years. Dixie was a member of Mackey Salem United Methodist Church, the American Legion #256, Eagles #4288, and Phil Beta Si sorority. She will be remembered for her time decorating floats for the town’s parades. Dixie was a kind and giving person who was always thoughtful. She never missed a birthday and loved to deliver goodies such as coconut pies and peaches. Dixie loved to be on the GO! She would take off for a drive as often as she could and would go socialize with friends and family. Dixie is loved by many and will deeply be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ben O’Neal; and sister, Jennifer Mutchman.
Dixie is survived by her son, Larry (Jody) Wira; step-daughters, Rachelle (Kendric) Butts and Cindy (Vic) Martgraf; grandchildren, Ashley (Zachery) Gamblin, Maddie Smith, Hallie (Levi Lampton) Bailey, Rayann Roettger, Noah, Jacob, and Maddy Martgraf; great-grandchildren, Maelyn and Elaya Gamblin, Lola Lampton, and Ryder Roettger; siblings, Beth (Rick) Nobles, Jerry Fritz, and Tammy (Joe) Hicks; brother-in-law, Eldon Mutchman; nieces and nephews, Christina (Bryce) Saulmon, Rick Jr. Nobles, Misty (Mark) Johnson, Kristy (Jeremy) Lauanchy, John Mutchman, Jane (Rick) Reed, Julie (Greg) Stickler, Zach Fritz, Tricia Barr, Adam (Mary) Hicks, and Grace Hicks; and many great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home, Oakland City, IN with Pastor Bill Reed officiating. Burial will follow the services at Albright Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 pm until the hour of service on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Albright Cemetery for up keep of the cemetery. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
