Dolories A. Stephens, 86, of Princeton, IN was called home April 27, 2024 at Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City. She was born October 31, 1937 in Holyoke, MA to the late Albert and Emelia Dewberry. Dolories married the love of her life, R. Russell Stephens, July 29, 1957 at Westover Air Force base. She was so in love they married 30 days after meeting. They were blessed with 46 years of marriage before his passing September 17, 2003. Dolories was a proud homemaker, who will be remembered as a second mother to many. She was a great example of a wife, mother, and grandmother. Dolories was a professional mom, she was always there for her children, her friends’ children, and anyone else that might need her. Dolories would drop everything to help anyone, especially children. Dolories was proud to be the neighborhood grannie! She volunteered over the years at many places including the library, where she would read to the children. Dolories worked as an event coordinator at Gibson General on the 5th floor. She enjoyed spending time with a good book, sewing, crocheting, cooking delicious meals, tending to the garden, and canning her bounty. Dolories was a member of Columbia General Baptist Church. She had great faith and was one of God’s faithful soldiers and prayer warrior. Dolories lived a life of love and devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild. Her life was lived with love, generosity, faith, joy, and complete devotion to others, Dolories has left an incredible legacy through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild. She is deeply loved and will be missed by many!
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, R. Russell Stephens; siblings, Albert “Red” Dewberry, Joseph Dewberry, Rex Dewberry, George “Eddie” Dewberry, Annie Martin, Ginger Hughes, and Grace Sulinski.
Dolories is survived by her children, Debbie (Steve) Marvel, Sue (Mark) Ising, and Christy Matthews; grandchildren, Kyla (Josh) Wolf, Erin Marvel (Travis Richeson), Bradley (Dawn) Marvel, Tiffany (Gary) Hughes, Christopher Ising, Joshua (Roxanne) Hyatt, Andrea (Michael) Dalttilo, Stacia (Scot) Macy, Shelby McVey, Alex McVey, C.J Matthews, Danielle Matthews, and Marquisa (Zebulin) Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Stephen Wolf, Emelia Wolf, Jaden Althoff, Justin Althoff, Jadelynn Hyatt, Raylee Hyatt, Patrick Winsatt, Abby Giles, Niccolo Macy, Damiano Macy, Kael Marvel, Kamryn Marvel, Trinity Marvel, Tristan Marvel, Jayda Smith, Gabriel Mitchell, Zion Mitchell, and Caleb Mitchell; great-great grandchild, Acacia Giles; two special “adopted” daughters, Debbie Greenwell and Sandy Clark; and many nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws.
The funeral service will be held 1:00 PM CST Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Columbia General Baptist Church in Princeton with Bart Newton and Cleavon Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM service time at the church.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff of Good Samaritan Home, especially Angie. They also wanted to thank Dr. Snyder and PA Candice. Additionally, Gentiva Hospice nursing staff, social workers, and clergy, especially Peyton.
