Dr. William R. Wells, MD, age 93, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated family practice physician and public servant to many in the greater Princeton community. His kindness and compassionate spirit will be missed by those who knew him and loved him. He was the son of the late W. Russell and Mary Wells.
Dr. Wells was a native of LaPorte County, Indiana. He began his practice in Princeton more than 65 years ago. He completed his undergraduate work and received his medical degree from Indiana University, served his residency in Lima, Ohio and was proud to have served his country as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force. Dr. was a 50 + year member of the Masonic lodge and Hillside United Methodist Church.
Dr. Wells established his practice in Princeton in 1959 which continued until October of 2022. The health and well-being of his patients was the driving force of his life’s calling as he continued to practice until he was nearly 92 years old.
Bill, as he was known to close friends, was an accomplished flutist who loved music, a licensed private pilot, and a passionate sailor who loved to sail and race the waters of Kentucky Lake.
He is survived by his children, John Wells (Debbie) of Princeton, Julie Wells of Madison, WI, Jennie Schmidt of Princeton, and James Wells (Sara) of Gilbertsville, KY. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Ashley Jenne (Steve), Benjamin Ching, Daniel Ching, Jacob Schmidt, Andrew Schmidt, Jameson Wells, Jessica Wells; great-granddaughter, Gwyneth Jenne; and special friend, Jan Maxey
Funeral services will be held at the graveside 9:30 A.M. Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Columbia White Church Cemetery officiated by Pastor Jenny White with Military Honors provided by the Retired Military Veterans. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Friday, September 13 at Colvin Funeral Home, 425 N. Main St., Princeton, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillside United Methodist Church or The American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
