Edward “Pops” Settle, 74, of Princeton, formerly of West Virginia, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He was born and raised in West Virginia, married in 1969, and joined the military with his sister, Daisy in 1970 on the “Buddy System” also known as the Buddy Team Enlistment Option. Edward proudly served in Vietnam for a 2-year tour, then served in the National Guard and Reserves all through the United States Army for an additional 2 years. Edward worked for Dowell/Schlumberger International as the head of maintenance for 29 years where they moved him and his family to Princeton, Indiana. After retiring, he dedicated 27 years as owner and operator of Silver Spur Splat Paint Ball Fields in Princeton, which was the job of his lifetime. He absolutely loved it, but had to retire due to his poor health the last year. Edward has touched a lot of hearts across the Tri-State area, he’s known as a “Legend”, a respectful man, and was dearly loved by so many. “Pops” will be missed beyond measure.
Edward is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Gibson) Settle of Princeton, formerly of West Virginia; children, Donna Watson (Bob) of Fox Island, Washington and Sean Settle of Stockton, Illinois; grandchildren, Christopher Watson and Daniel Watson both of Fox Island, Washington, and Katelyn Settle and Samantha Lynch Minnis of Fort Branch; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Remington Rose of Fort Branch, and Lucas and Emma of Fox Island, Washington; 4 sisters; 1 brother; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mary (Mitchell) Settle; grandson, Casey Settle; and father-in-law, Omar “Hoot” Gibson.
The graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM (EDT) Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Park of Beckley, West Virginia. A military walk through will take place at 4:00 PM Thursday, August 8, 2024 by members of the Retired Military Veterans at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton followed by visiting hours until 8:00 PM.
