Elizabeth Nelson Obituary

Elizabeth “Liz” Nelson, 78, of Oakland City, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. She was born July 6, 1943 in Oakland City to Eugene and Avis (Jenkins) Sharp. She spent her early years in Somerville, but lived most of her life in Oakland City.  She retired from Gibson General Hospital in 2009, having worked in the cafeteria.  She was married to her late husband, Gerald “Corky” Nelson on June 6, 1964 in Oakland City. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, researching family history, listening to her grandchildren’s many musical abilities, and visiting with family.

Liz is survived by her son, Theron Nelson-Mercer (Ara) of Noblesville; son-in-law, James Kessen of Aurora; grandchildren, Crystal Kessen Powers (J.J.) of Wilmington Hills; Hollie Kessen Hosier (Andrew) of Milan, Heather Kessen of Aurora, Candace Kessen of Aurora, Ben Nelson-Mercer, Jacob Nelson-Mercer and Lydia Nelson-Mercer, all of Noblesville; sister, Betty Sharp Lepeau of Oakland City; brothers, Robert Sharp (Lyla) of Bloomington, Gerald Sharp of Francisco; sister-in-law Judy Johnson Sharp of Chatham, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; daughter, Cassandra “Cassie” Kessen; and brothers, George Edmond, Kenny and Russell Sharp.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. CDT Monday, September 27, 2021 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City with Rev. Amber Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Somerville Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday at the funeral home.
