Eugene Phillips

Eugene Phillips 92 of Francisco, passed away Friday, March 6, 2020 at the North River Health Campus near Evansville. He was born in Francisco February 12, 1928 to William and Ethel (Broach) Phillips.

He was a coal miner for 40 years last working for Amax Coal in Keensburg, IL.  He lived in Francisco most of his life.  Served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was an active member of the Francisco General Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and handled the Bus Ministry for the church for many years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1791 and enjoyed watching University of Indiana basketball.

Eugene is survived by his children, Elaine Krieg (Steve) of Francisco, Pam Bailey (Jim) of Francisco, David Phillips (Kelly) of Princeton, and Darren Phillips (April Wood) of Mt. Carmel; sister, Carol Hale of Francisco; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Nancy Strickland of Oakland City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria Phillips in 2015; 5 sisters; 2 brothers; and grandson Eric Bailey.

A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the Francisco General Baptist Church in Francisco officiated by Dr. Kathryn Webb. Burial will follow at Francisco Community Cemetery in Francisco. A visitation will be held from 10 AM until funeral service time, 12:00 PM at the church. Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton is handling the arrangements. Military graveside services will be provided by the Retired Military Veterans.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be given to the Francisco General Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
