Frances Owens, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025 at RiverOaks Health Campus in Princeton after being challenged with symptoms of Parkinsons over the last several years. A recent stroke complicated her health conditions. Frances Elaine (Decker) Owens was born December 13, 1945 in Madison County, the daughter of Ralph and Esther Decker. She graduated from Markleville High School and attended Indiana Business College at Anderson.
She married her husband David, May 1, 1971. Over the course of her 53 years of marriage she partnered her husband in company transfers to Cincinnati, New York City and Pittsburgh. Upon retirement they nested in Princeton, the hometown area of her grandparents of Mt. Olympus.
Frances was an accomplished seamstress. She played the accordion and throughout her life she actively pursued her interests in music, gardening, horseback riding, entertaining and camping. Her affiliations include; American Society of Women Accountants, American Baptist Church, Toastmasters International, the Scottish Clan Lindsay, the St. Andrews Society, Theatre Organ Society, Evansville River City Ramblers Square Dancers and Princeton’s Green Thumb Garden Club. She was also instrumental in Princeton’s Jasper Davidson House entry in “Indiana’s Register of Historical Sites and Structures” in 2004.
Her accounting education and skills enabled employment in various areas of accounting. Eventually these experiences lead her into a management position with a geological consulting firm in Pennsylvania.
Frances was preceded in death by a younger, brother Dennis, her father Ralph and mother Esther, all three interred at Mt. Olive Cemetery at Mt. Olympus, Indiana. Surviving family members includes an older brother, Wayne (Mary) and several scattered nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Bill McKiddy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus. Visitation will be from 4:30 pm until 8 pm on Friday, February 7th at Colvin Funeral Home.
