Frank Michael Folkmann of Princeton, Indiana, went to be with our Lord on September 4, 2026.
Frank was born Ferenc Michael Folkmann on June 1, 1940, in Csávoly, Hungary, to the late Peter Sr. and Maria Folkmann, and was the grandson of Jozsef and Julianna Folkmann.
In 1947, at the age of seven, Frank, along with his parents, grandparents, and brother, was forced to flee their family home during the aftermath of World War II, as the Soviet occupation and Soviet-controlled communist Hungarian government carried out the widespread expulsion of many families. Frank’s family was among those forced to leave and his childhood home was confiscated during the Soviet occupation.
They left on foot and were aided by the use of a horse and a wagon and spent nearly two years living as refugees. They eventually made their way to Radkersburg, Austria, and then to Naples, Italy, where they boarded the Greek ocean liner, SS Nea Hellas on May 30, 1949. The Nea Hellas was one of several ships transporting refugees and displaced persons. Frank and his family were bound for Canada, where they began their new lives. Frank began spending time in the United States in 1984, before marrying his wife in 1987, and becoming a U.S. citizen in 2021.
As an adult, Frank retired from General Motors in Oshawa, Canada. Frank was a highly skilled woodworker and could design, build, fix, paint, and restore almost anything. He enjoyed traveling in his GM Motorhome, antiquing, and having family dinners.
Frank is truly loved and will be very missed by his family and friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and his brother, Peter Folkmann, Jr.
Frank is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marcella Lloyd Folkmann; his children, Karen (David) Agee, Kevin (Nancy) Emerson, and Neal (Kelly) Emerson; grandson, Christain Myers; and his beloved dog, Bailey.
