Fred Anthis Obituary

Fred J. Anthis, 85, of Patoka, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville. He was born December 6, 1934 in Patoka son of the late George Washington Anthis and SaFrona (Morrison) Anthis. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and was a proud lifelong member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #450. He married Karon Sue (Lewis) Anthis September 4, 1959 and they were blessed with 54 years together before her passing in 2013. He was a lifelong attendee of Patoka United Methodist Church where he enjoyed telling his church jokes to his beloved church family. Fred always had a story to tell from his army days to his old basketball years, or even his recent trips to the hospital. He played basketball at Oakland City and in the Army and that grew into his love of coaching the sport. He also coached baseball and track. Fred was most known for his time as an educator with North Gibson School Corporation as he taught drivers education, wood working, history, health, and PE from 1961 until 2006. Fred was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his children, Tammy (Dennis) DeVries of Auburn, AL, Tricia Kolb, Joe Anthis, John (Tabitha) Anthis, and Jim (Lora) Anthis all of Patoka; grandchildren, Stephen (Annie), Zachary (Maryann) and Emily DeVries, Brock Kolb, Alex, Hayden, Jacob (Rachel), and Wyatt (Hillary) Anthis, Blake and Ellie Anthis, Taylor (Aaron) Daniel, and Ashlyn and Kyndall Anthis; 6 great-grandchildren; and brother, Bill (Patricia) Anthis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

The Anthis family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Murthy and staff, DaVita Dialysis, The Ride, and Deaconess Foundation for the special care Fred received.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions the services for Mr. Anthis will be privately held. Interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Patoka to rest with his wife in peace.
