Fredrick Hume Obituary

Fredrick L. Hume, 88, of Oakland City, IN passed away at his home October 9, 2023. He was born August 29, 1935 in Oakland City, IN to the late Oscar Hume and Golden (Wade) Hume. Fred married Alberta (Henson) Hume August 17, 1962 and was blessed with four children. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Fred was a retired coal miner from Old Ben 2, where he worked for 38 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors tending his garden, golfing, and fishing. Fred will be remembered as a jack of all trades.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael L. Hume; grandson, Nathan Houchins; son-in-law, Bernard Bailey Jr.; and brother, Prentice “Deacon” Hume.

Fred is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alberta Hume; children, David Hume, Cindy Bailey, and Scott Hume; grandchildren, Alec Sandra Hume, Abigail Hume, Tim Hume, Chasity Hume, Coy Hume, and Makaila Fetcher; great-grandchildren, Iris Faye Kirby, Mya Hume, Gabriel Hume, Kaylianna Carter, Kamden Hume, Joey Hume, Austin Peach, Kayla Marie Hume, and Hailey Hume; and brother, Douglas Hume.

A graveside service will be held 11 AM CDT, October 20, 2023 at Williams Cemetery with Military Honors.
