Garry Willis Obituary

Garry Lee Willis, 87, of Avon, IN formerly of Ayrshire, IN was called home Monday, April 21, 2025 at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, FL. He was born January 10, 1938 in Ayrshire, IN to the late Vernon and Dorothy (Frost) Willis. Garry graduated from Winslow High School in 1956. During high school he worked for the coal mine doing payroll. Garry worked for a traveling construction company after high school that had worksites from Pennsylvania to New Mexico. He married Sharon Sue (White) Willis, September 1, 1956 and was blessed with nearly 58 years of marriage before her passing on June 22, 2014. Garry proudly served in the Indiana National Guard for 35 years before retiring in 1996 as a Colonel. He had attended Ayrshire Valley General Baptist Church in Winslow, American Legion, Hadi Shriner, Eagles, and the Masonic Lodge. Garry loved spending winters at his home in Ruskin, FL in Manatee Park for the last 25+ years. He enjoyed finding hobbies around the house, tinkering, and fixing things. Garry liked to spend time boating on the Ohio River and camping. He even earned his realtors license to have something to do after retirement, but decided he liked not working. Garry will be remembered for his wit, stubbornness, and Garry-isms. He was loved by many and will deeply be missed.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon Sue Willis; siblings, Fred (Fern) Willis and Eugene “Woody” (Joann) Willis; and brother-in-law, Cecil Houchin.
