George E. Schupp, 93, a longtime resident of Princeton, Indiana, passed away on March 17, 2020, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on October 24, 1926, in Princeton, Indiana, to George A. Schupp and Lovie A. (Krieg) Schupp. He attended the Princeton public schools and graduated in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December, 1943 and went on active duty in March, 1944.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician's mate in the Pacific. He married Dorothy L. Kowarsch of Chicago, Illinois, in 1944, shortly before leaving for overseas duty. After his discharge in 1946, he attended the Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated in 1950. He immediately left Chicago and moved back to Princeton where he found employment as a model maker with the Hansen Co.
As a member of the U.S. Naval reserve, in which he re-enlisted in 1947, he was called to active duty in 1950 shortly after the Korean conflict broke out. He served on board the destroyer, USS Hyman, until his discharge in 1951.
After returning home once more to Princeton, he left the Hansen Co. and was employed at the newly founded Hurst Mfg. Corp. as their tool designer. In 1960, having completed an ICC course in Electrical Engineering, he was promoted to the position of Chief Electrical Engineer. He held the position of Chief Engineer until his retirement in 1991 and was responsible for the design and development of most of the electric motors manufactured by the company.
George was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, in 2011, sons, James C. Schupp in 2019 and John E. Schupp, in 1991.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandra L. (Daniel) Eastham of Boonville, Indiana; Susan E. Sisson (Chuck) of New Port Richey, Florida, Rebecca J. (Rob Weiss) Greer of Indian Shores, Florida, Georgia A. (John) McEllhiney, of Princeton, Indiana, and his daughter-in-law, Cathy Schupp of Princeton, Indiana. He also has surviving him 17 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service for immediate family only will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020, with Pastor, Ronald Marsh, officiating. Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton has been entrusted with the arrangements
George was a great son, husband, father and grandfather. He was well-respected by those who were fortunate to know him and will be truly missed by all.
