Harold Mays Obituary

Harold James Mays, 82, of Hazleton, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 in Hazleton. He was born January 11, 1942 in Herrin, Illinois to the late Valley Mays and Geneva (Keeler) Mays and worked at Hansen Manufacturing for over 30 years. He married Cora (Butts) Mays on October 26, 1968 and they were together for 54 years, until her passing. Harold was a St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana University basketball fan. He enjoyed mowing and spending time with his family. He was loved and will be missed beyond measure.

Harold is survived by his children, Dawn Wade and husband Jeromy of Owensville, Jane (Mays) Ritchie and husband, Brian of Princeton, and Jesse Mays of Hazleton; grandchildren, Jessica (Bajzath) Carey and husband, Ryan of Princeton, Colton Bajzath and wife, Melissa of Patoka, Heath Bonney of Oakland City, Hailey Bonney of Oakland City, Kyle Wade and wife, Leandra of Haubstadt, Kameron Wade and wife, Megan of Owensville, and Mika (Hartley) Dunn of Hatfield; 11 great-grandchildren; a couple of great-great-grandchildren on the way; and sisters, Annette (Mays) Branche and husband, Dale of Freeman Spur, Illinois and Charlotta (Mays) Kerrigan of Freeman Spur, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Darryl Mays; brothers, Gene, Vern, George, Donald, Ronald, and Larry Mays; and sister, Delores Ruth (Mays) Tolbert.

The funeral service for Harold will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton officiated by Pastor Justin Dyehouse. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus. Visiting hours will be held from 4 until 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
