Harold Peterson Obituary

Harold Ray "Pete" Peterson awoke in the kingdom of heaven on December 5, 2022. He left his earthly body after a life well lived and with the most beautiful love of Jesus in his heart. Although he will be greatly missed on this side of heaven, his family and friends celebrate the promise that we can and will see him again in the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.

Harold Ray (Pete) Peterson Jr was born May 29, 1927 to Emma Elenore Jane Sanford of Mount Carmel, IL. Harold "Pete" was raised alongside his brother, Ivan "Pete", in Mount Carmel and graduated from Mt Carmel HS, Class of 1945. Shortly after graduation, Pete enlisted in the US Army, in which he served in both WWII and The Korean War. SIG Corporal Peterson was discharged with honors from the US Armed Forces on Feb 28, 1953 after a distinguished career.

On June 25, 1950 Harold Ray married the love of his life and wife of 72 years, Patricia French also of Mt. Carmel, IL.  Shortly after being wed, the couple moved to Chicago, IL where Pete enrolled and graduated from Coyne Electrical College, then returned home to Mt. Carmel.

Pat and Pete welcomed their first daughter, Rae Lynn (April 1951) born in Princeton then their second daughter, Jan Ellen (October 1956) in Mt Carmel, IL.

Pete began working for Potter & Brumfield in Princeton, IN as a draftsman. At the start of his career the couple moved their family to the south end of Prince Steet, where they went on to raise their family. Both daughters were graduates of Princeton Community High School.

Many years later, Pete retired from the same company after the ownership changed to Siemens. He was very proud of the fact he was part of the team who worked on relays for the space missions.

Pete was an active and beloved member of The Church of God for over 72 years. Pete enjoyed serving the church in many ways including, but not limited to: teaching Sunday school, youth group leader, attending the men’s group & was an active member of the church choir. Pete also enjoyed serving the Princeton Community. He acted as the Southern Indiana Representative of the AARP. He was also active in a comedy musical group named the Doodley Doers which brought countless laughs and good-will to local shut-ins and nursing homes throughout the Princeton area. Pete was also a member of the Princeton American Legion.

Later in life, he found joy in oil painting when he began attending art classes at the Princeton Community Senior Center. He would go on to earn several awards for his artwork. In all, he created over 100 pieces of art that are cherished & invaluable to his family.

Pete is preceded in death by his mother; brother Ivan; his beloved daughter, Rae Lynn; and a great-grandson, Christian Long.

Pete is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughter, Jan (Jody) Beach; his granddaughters, Machelle (Adam) Young, Janette  Andreanopoulos, Jennifer (Chris) Burns, Jessica (Dustin) Rumple & Alyssa (Brian) Castille; his grandsons, Eric (Sara) McCandless, Mark (Leah)  Andreanopoulos, & Stephen (Morgan)  Andreanopoulos; as well as 17 great-grandchildren.
