Helen C. Mitchell

Helen C. Mitchell, 84, of Princeton, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. She was born in Tennyson, Indiana on November 15, 1941 the daughter of Almon D. and Dorothy Mae (Trainer) Christmas. Helen retired as a surgical technician in the emergency Department at Gibson General Hospital where she worked for 25 years. She volunteered as a “Grey Lady” at the Baldwin Heights School, a teacher’s helper at Lowell School South, a picture lady at Brumfield School while her daughter and grandsons attended, she also volunteered at the Salvation Army Mission and Nutrition at Lafayette Park. She taught CPR and safety classes, bible school, Sunday school, held several positions in the church she previously attended, and was a member of for over 50 years. She was a cub scout leader for the Tiger Cubs through Webelos and was a Certified Emergency Medical Technician. Helen enjoyed sewing, different crafts, furniture refinishing, working in the garden, and her flowers. Most of all, she enjoyed her precept classes at Bethel Church and was an avid reader.

Helen was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Helen is survived by her grandsons, Jeramy Eaton (Brie) of Princeton and Jordon Mayer of Dickson, TN; brothers, Bill (Judy) Christmas and John Christmas; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Steve) Johnson and Lucille Christmas; great-grandchildren, Ava Marie Eaton, Jackson Eaton, and Remington Pflug; 5 nieces; 2 nephews; and several cousins.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C. L. Mitchell; son, Dennis Ray Eaton; daughter, Denise R. Beasley; 2 sisters, Janis Lynn Christmas and Genevieve Wade; and brother, Harry Wayne Christmas.  

The funeral service will be held at 1 PM on August 14, 2026 at Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton officiated by Pastor Kevin Wilson and Rev. David Kelle. Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until service time at the church.
