Helen J. Schmidt, 94, of Princeton, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Bethel Manor Nursing Home in Evansville. She was born January 24, 1929 in Gibson County to Bertis and Ardalene (Selby) Rogers.
She had lived in Princeton for the past 50 years. She was a homemaker and had worked for the former Book Worm and Smith Shoes Store in Princeton. She had been a military wife for 23 years with her first husband, Harold V. McDonald. She loved sewing, crafts, cooking, playing bingo, collecting antiques and especially mushroom hunting. She enjoyed walking and would walk three miles every day until she was 90.
She is survived by daughters, Linda Ross of Evansville, Lori McDonald Madison (Paul) of Evansville, and Shelly McDonald Shamsaie of Princeton; step-children, John W. Schmidt (Kathy) of Hebron, KY, Gary Schmidt (Terra) of Princeton, Linda Hawf (Chris) of Princeton, and Stan Schmidt (Carol) of Winter Haven, Fl; siblings, Shirley Hume, John Rogers, Fern Roeder, Sharon Claridge, Jane Rogers and Debra Versteeg; grandchildren, Ryan, Danielle and Troy McDonald, Eric Johnson, Logan and Audra Dyer, Shayan and Austin Shamsaie, Tera Fischer, Mandy Bilyeu, John Mark Schmidt, Karl, Kristofer and Karen Schmidt and April Racine; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, John William “Bill” Schmidt; son, Ronald W. McDonald; sibling, Doris Mason, Bill Rogers, Lynn Price, Kathleen Claridge, and Tom Rogers.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Donnie Truelock officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia White Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 pm until service time at the funeral home on Friday.
