Helena Mae Jenkins, 92 of Oakland City, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was born in Oakland City, IN on November 17, 1930 to the late Raymond Roy McKinney and Cleatis Mae (Copeland) McKinney. Helena graduated from Oakland City High School in 1948. She married her first husband, Verdayne Miley in 1949. Helena was only married a short 3 years before his sudden passing. She married her second husband, William Dale Jenkins in 1955 and was blessed with 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2006. Helena worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at a variety of hospitals over the years, including Washington Indiana Hospital, the old Oakland City Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, and Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was a member of Christ Gospel Church in Evansville, IN. Helena enjoyed working in her garden during early years and always loved attending church to praise the Lord.
She is survived by her children, Jody (Cindy) Miley of Kilgore,Texas and Brenda (Fred) Heimbuecher of Oakland City, IN; sister, Oleva Butcher; grandchildren, Shawn Heimbuecher, Katie Heimbuecher, Corbyn Jenkins, Mae Jenkins, Cody Jenkins, DeeAnne Splittorff, Joey Miley, Jodie Lee Nanney; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Verdayne Miley; 2nd husband, William Dale Jenkins; son, Jeremy Jenkins; and siblings, Irene Graham, Fern Biggs Sims, June Marshall, Roberta Thompson, Leatrice Ingle, and Malcolm McKinney.
The funeral service will be held at 1 pm (CDT) on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City with Sister Sharon Spicer officiating. Interment will follow at Atkinson Chapel Cemetery in Oatsville, IN. Friends may visit from 11am until the service time at the funeral home.
