Henry Wade Nelson, Jr went to be with the Lord, in his home, quietly in his sleep on November 11, 2023.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. During his service, both domestic and abroad, he served as a legal assistant and out of the goodness of his heart, he also served as Assistant Chaplain.
Henry is survived by his wife, Joyanna, of Princeton, IN. He had three children and 11 grandchildren. John Nelson and his wife Julie of Illinois. Their children, Miquelie Davis (Jacob), Mollie Hilton, (fiance, Matthew Clerk), Maxwell Nelson (Deceased). Jayonetta and her husband Paul of Tennessee. Their children, Jack and Gabriella. Charity Curry and her husband, Jim Shaffer, of IL, and their children, Floyd, Rayden, Jackson D, Nathaniel, Alexis and Jackson R. He also had eight great grandchildren.
Henry was the oldest son of Henry Wade Nelson, Sr and Menta Walker, both deceased.
He was the oldest of ten children. Linda Daughtery, Winslow, IN, Tamela English, Petersburg, IN, Kristy Nelson, Huntingburg, IN, Paula Taylor, Winslow, IN, Tim Nelson and wife, Carrie, Petersburg, IN. He is preceded in death by four siblings; Carolyn Parkhill, Michael Nelson, Sherry Nelson, and Menetta Strobel. He had many nieces and nephews.
Henry loved to share his own love and message of Jesus Christ through his music. He loved to sing, as well and play both guitar and piano. It was truly a God-given gift as he could never read a note. He was also an avid reader.
Henry's first love was Jesus Christ and he had pastored many churches in his lifetime as a minister and had a very large church family. He also had many, many friends. He was also a substitute teacher for many years, enjoying the children as they grew and learned. He was known by his students as, “Mr. May I?” He touched lives wherever he went.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023, 1:00 PM (Pike Time), at Martin Cemetery on S County Rd. 75 W, Glezen, IN 47567. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service. Full military rites will be accorded by the Retired Military Veterans. Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton is entrusted with Henry's care, and is honored to serve his family.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2023, 12:00 PM, at the Community Center, 411 East Porter St, Winslow, IN.
