Jack E. Whitehead, 94 of Princeton, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton. He was born August 3, 1929 in Princeton to William J. and Emma (Bishop) Whitehead.
Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1952, during the Korean Conflict, where he obtained the rank of Corporal. He was a retired Coal Miner working for AMAX Coal for 26 years. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. and was a former member of the American Legion Post 25. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, playing golf, and watching the Dallas Cowboys Football team.
Jack is survived by his sons, Dennis Whitehead of Princeton, and Chris Whitehead (Jessica) of Ft. Branch; grandchildren, Josh and Seth Whitehead, Dallis, Savannah and Dalton Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Lydia and Cam Whitehead; brother, Bobby Joe Whitehead of Benton IL; sister Rosella Ann Carr of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Fern in 2007, to whom he married, December 22, 1950; brothers, William E., Charles R., and Jerry Lee Whitehead; and a sister, Judith Lynn Beard.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the graveside in the Columbia “White Church” Cemetery in Princeton, with Pastor Josh Brown officiating. Burial will follow the services. The Retired Military Veterans will conduct a military memorial service at the cemetery. The Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
