James Bishop Obituary

James L. Bishop, 83, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Deaconess Gibson Hospital in Princeton. He was the second son of Leonard “Beanie” Bishop and Goldie (McCrary) Bishop born June 24, 1939 in Patoka. “Jimbelly”, as he was known to many, enjoyed his life serving others. He went to several other states on mission trips helping after hurricanes or tornadoes. He served his church in many ways and was a church representative at 43 conferences until his health made it impossible. Jim worked 33 and half years at Norfolk Southern Railroad as a conductor. He served in U.S. Army as military police during the Korean war and last April was proud to be part of the 13th Honor Flight out of Evansville.

Jim was a member of Patoka United Methodist Church, Gideon’s International of Gibson County, Hadi Shriner, Scottish Rite, Columbia Lodge, and a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, and the NRA.

Jim married Lois Jean “Jeanie” (Pugh) Bishop on July 6, 1962 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Francie Bishop; son, Marty Bishop; grandson, Tyler Mays; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack Bishop, Donald Eugene Bishop, and Vaughn Bishop; and sisters, Madeline Moyer, Ellen Roach, and Anna Lee Bishop.
