James “David” Hudson, 86, of Patoka, Indiana, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Deaconess Gibson Hospital in Princeton. He was born September 4, 1935 in Sturgis, Kentucky to James McClain and Mary Eloise (White) Hudson. He married Marilyn Sloan on August 14, 1960 and they were blessed with 60 wonderful years together.
David was a lifelong farmer in rural Patoka. He also worked at Whirlpool in Evansville and Wilder Oil in Patoka. He served in the Army National Guard from 1958-1964.
He was an active member of the Patoka United Methodist Church, where he served as the Church Historian. He was known for his impressive memory and interest in local history. He was a 1953 graduate of Patoka High School, where he played basketball and baseball. He was an avid basketball fan, regularly following the Patoka Wrens, the Princeton Community Tigers boys and girls teams, and the University of Kentucky. He had a great interest in Major League Baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox.
David is survived by three children, Ron Hudson (Kathy), Maria Stone (Bob) and Rick Hudson; four grandchildren, Kayla Cotterman (Trevor); Alyssa Koberstein (Jeff), Andy Stone and Matt Stone; four great-grandchildren, Beau Cotterman, Lani Cotterman, Maggie Cotterman and Carly Koberstein; a sister-in-law, Jane Hudson; and two nephews, J.D. Hudson and Doug Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, Donald Hudson; an infant brother, Darrell Hudson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Perry and Evedene Sloan.
Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 31 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Ricky Simpson will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Decker Cemetery in Patoka. The service will be live streamed on the Colvin Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 2:00 p.m., https://www.facebook.com/ColvinFuneralHomes.
