James Nossett Obituary

James Donald Nossett, 86, passed peacefully into the presence of his Savior on September 10, 2025 in Cumming, GA after a brief illness.

Jim was born on April 13, 1939, to Robert and Gertrude Nossett. He graduated from Princeton High School as a star basketball player, later becoming a national champion with the Evansville Aces at Evansville College. After college, he served as an Indiana State Police Trooper for several years before moving on to international sales for Barber Coleman in 1966. In 1975, he joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (now Cru), where he served faithfully for fifty years until his death.

Jim was a passionate and beloved teacher of the Bible, teaching first at East Side Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia. As a member of Cru’s staff, he taught, ministered to, and mentored hundreds of businessmen, professional athletes, pastors, and leaders. He later joined North Pointe Community Church, where he was a member for many years.

Jim was a family man who deeply loved and faithfully served his wife, Penny, and three sons, Greg, Chris, and James. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He spent many years attending NASCAR races with his family and was a talented woodworker, building much of the furniture in their family home by hand.

Before all else, Jim was a man of God. A passionate follower of Jesus, he lived to serve his Savior and others. He was a generous soul, always looking for ways to help and give to other people, whether it was his time, money, or wisdom. He wanted to be known as someone who “gave himself away,” and that title fit him perfectly.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gertrude, and his son Greg. He is survived by his beloved wife, Penny; sister Rose Ann Nossett Capin (James); sons Chris Nossett (Theresa) and James Nossett (Lori); daughter-in-law Connie Nossett; grandchildren Anna Davis (Jared), Bethany Trice (Wynn), Lauren Nossett, Caitlin Montenegro Burke (Rafa), Michael Nossett (Grace), and Ashley Hunt (Braden); and nine great-grandchildren.

Though we grieve the loss of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, we rejoice in knowing that he is with the Savior whom he loved. And we have no doubt that the first words he heard in Heaven were, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A funeral service will be held at the graveside Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 2 pm in the Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton.  Burial will follow the services. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the services.
