James L. Sampson, 89 of Princeton, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Waters of Princeton. He was born in Gibson County, April 17, 1933, to Lewis Henry and Marie (Woods) Sampson.
Jim retired from Emge Packing in Ft. Branch, where he worked as a meat packer and meat cutter. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, and was a big fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina Bender (Tom Gayer), and Karla Scott (Ryan) both of Princeton; 2 sisters, Joyce Biel and Phyllis Schmitt both of Ft. Branch; grandchildren, Jewel Perdue (Nick), Jaiden Scott (Aly), Kelsie Hiatt (Jacob), Hunter Sampson and Beth Ann Sampson; great grandchildren, Winry, Nicholaus, and Raiden Perdue.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann Sampson; son, Jimmy Sampson; and brother Jerry Sampson.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Mindy Huffman officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday. There will be a graveside service at a later date following cremation, at the Columbia “White” Church Cemetery in Princeton, where the Retired Military Veterans will provide military rites.
