Jerry Yelch Obituary

Jerry Mac Yelch, 80, of Princeton, passed away March 7, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He was born April 17, 1939 to the late Cecil “Bud” and Miriam (McRoberts) Yelch.

Jerry grew up in Princeton and was a graduate of Princeton High School Class of 1957. He continued his education at Valparaiso University where he received his electrical/electronic engineering degree in 1962. Post-graduation, Jerry was hired by the McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Corporation based in St. Louis, MO and worked there until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed working on projects for the original NASA space program.

Jerry was a sports enthusiast and especially liked the IU Hoosiers and St. Louis Cardinals. He was an avid golfer and could play a “mean” game of ping pong. He was inspired by nature and wildlife and spent time watching the birds and deer in his backyard. A special hobby for Jerry was “ham radio” operation and he was in contact with people worldwide. He held membership in several organizations: Masonic Lodge 231, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shriners, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Elks Lodge #634 and the Bluebird Society.

Jerry was an inspiration to those who knew him. He is survived by special friends George A. and Malinda Gilbert plus many other close friends and cousins.

A funeral service will held at the graveside at 1 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus, IN with William Fenton officiating. Those attending are encouraged to wear facial coverings and practice social distancing. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a gathering immediately following the service at the home of George and Malinda Gilbert, 1129 N. Main St., Princeton, IN.
