Jody Wethington Obituary

The Princeton community lost one of its beloved members when “Jody” Kyle Wethington, 76, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. He was born February 16, 1945 in Noblesville to the late Kyle Wethington and Emma Jane (Cox) Perry. Jody worked 23 years as a coal miner and then as a supervisor for the State of Indiana for 8 years. He was a music lover to his core; was in charge of several bands: Impala’s, Flaming Coals, Apple Jacks, and Styll Country; and played guitar, bass, keyboard, mandolin, and ukulele. Gospel and country music were his favorite genres but his favorite activity was being in front of the mic singing and songwriting. He was a guest singer/co-host with Gary Dawson on “The Roots of Country” for WRAY radio. In 2004 he won the State Male Old Time Singing Champion. He was proud of his country and always ended his musical gigs in a patriotic song. Jody was a member of the NRA, the USBC, UMWA, and the Princeton Bowling Association, winning a spot in the Princeton Bowling Hall of Fame. He served as the Vice President of the Princeton Men’s Bowling Association for 12 years. He was also a proud member of the “Wild Hogs” motorcycle club along with David, Gary, Greg, and Joe. He enjoyed playing a round of golf with his grandsons and camping with his musician friends. He also enjoyed watching Hallmark Movies and Jack Daniels. He was dearly loved and will be missed beyond measure.

Jody is survived by his fiancée, Rose Backes of Princeton; children, Mona McConnell of Carmel and Kevin Wethington of Princeton; grandchildren, Kalen “KJ” McConnell (Courtney), Maegan McConnell Roberts (Chris), Marissa McConnell (Jawad), Kyle McConnell (Ali), Kohyn Wethington, Aiden Wethington, and Jessa Wethington; great-grandchildren, Arielle, Laila, James, Ainsley, Thomas and Rowan; former wife, Martha Mayer Wethington; siblings, Lawrence Wethington (Phyllis), Lovina Drennan, Wilma Nave, Larry Wethington (Rita Williams), Ramona Lechtner (Brian), Jack Perry (Janet), Emma Lou Wilson (Joe), and Danny Perry (Amy); uncle, Buck (Earnest) Wethington; and best friend, Harlan Turpin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mitchell Wethington (Ruth), Reda Vay Fair (Herl), Eugene Wethington (Sandy), “Chuck” Charles Wethington, “Doc” Harold Wethington (Debbie), Jane Anne Wethington, Martha Morris (Danny), and Billie Irene Perry.
