John Albers "Jay" Obituary

John Douglas Albers “Jay”, age 85, passed away July 4, 2026. He attended and graduated from Randolph-Macon Military Academy in Fort Royal, VA. Jay was a member of St. Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church in Hendersonville, TN, and a Master Mason and 50-year member of the Washington Lodge #58 A.F. & A.M. in St. Albans, WV. He worked for C.O. Christian and Sons for 36 years until his retirement on his 80th birthday.

Jay had a great sense of humor, and loved pier fishing, reading, movies and watching TV, especially Sci-Fi. He was a brilliant amateur photographer, winning several awards in Chesapeake, VA.


He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sandra Albers.

Jay is survived by his daughter, Ann R. Shike (Brian); grandchildren, Jacob Shike, Adam Shike (Morgan), and Joseph Shike; great-grandchild, Jeremy Shike; brother, Stephen “Steve” Albers (Marti); sister, Harriet Doub, Virginia Beach, VA.


Interment will be at 11 a.m. at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City, IN, Saturday, October 3, 2026 with Masonic honors.
