John L. Berry, 92, of Patoka, passed away at his home Tuesday, February 4, 2025. He was born in Decker to the late Matthew Berry and Ethel (Williams) Berry and served in the United States Army for 2 years. He married Joyce (Sloan) Berry on July 4, 1953 and worked at Hansen’s and J&L Farm Equipment. John attended First Baptist Church for 20 years and was a member of Patoka Methodist Church. John was the sexton and caretaker of Oak Hill Cemetery in Patoka for many years. He served at the Fire Department and sold insurance, but was a farmer at heart working with his brother and David Hudson. He also enjoyed woodworking. John was loved and will be missed.
John is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joyce Berry of Patoka; sons, Mike Berry (Janice) of Patoka, David Berry (Diana) of Patoka, Jim Berry of Evansville, and Mark Berry (Stephanie) of Patoka; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Decker Cemetery near Patoka, with Pastor Ricky Simpson officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by members of the Retired Military Veterans. Interment will follow.
