John Ready Obituary

John Edward Ready, to many known as “John Boy”, 78, of Princeton passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 8, 2025. He was born in Loogootee, IN March 18, 1947. John graduated from Sullivan High School in 1965. Soon after, he married the love of his life, Vickie (Webster) Ready on June 3, 1967, and was blessed with 58 years. John retired from Duke Energy Gibson Station as a Coal Yard Supervisor in 2006 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, Princeton Elks, American Legion, VFW, Hadi Shriners, and most importantly an “honorary member” of the Knights of Columbus in Princeton. John enjoyed golfing, boating, and fishing in his spare time. He also took up woodworking and would make small furniture. John was a passionate IU fan. He and Vickie loved spending time together on their Harley Davidson trike. They were snow birds for 7 years spending the winters in Sebring, FL. He also spent a lot of time socializing and camping at Kentucky Lake and Patoka Lake. John will always be known as the king of laughter; he could light up a room in no time and bring happiness to those around him. John had an amazing character about him and would help anyone that needed it without hesitation. He will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind man that would bring you daily Facebook posts that would always bring a smile to your face. John is loved by so many and is already deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Max M. Ready and Helen (Horst) Ready and biological father, who he reconnected with later in life, John Lawrence.

John is survived by his wife, Vickie Ready; daughter, Amy (Ryan) Coomer of Princeton; siblings, Tom Ready of Salem, Kathleen Lancaster of San Diego, CA, Marie (Reed) Settle of Wales, UT, and Jason (Cathy) Lawrence of Auburn, CA; granddaughter, Morgan (Lance) Barrett; great-grandson, Cormac Barrett; brothers-in-law, Terry (Becky) Webster, Randy (Cindy) Webster; sister-in-laws, Connie Thompson, Linda (John) Meng; and many nieces and nephews.
