John "Johnny" E. Banet

John E. “Johnny” Banet, a beloved son, husband, brother, and loyal friend, age 75, passed away Friday August 21, 2026 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He was born July 17, 1951 in Princeton to Gerald and Venetta (Kendle) Banet.

After graduating from Princeton High School in 1970 Johnny worked at Whirlpool, Potter and Brumfield, Norfolk Southern Railroad, and the City of Princeton. Johnny was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and attended school there from grades 1-8 before graduating from P.H.S.

He is survived by the love of his life Vicki (Hannah) Banet of Mt Olympus; his son, V. “Charlie” Banet of Terre Haute; sisters, Jane Ann (Bill) Slinker of Newburgh, and Judy (Bret) Hyneman of Mt. Olympus.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Bernedette; brothers, Jerry and Jimmy Banet; his childhood classmate and teammate, Danny Memmer; and his best friend Jeff Hubbard.

Johnny loved driving the back roads with Vicki, watching the local wildlife especially the eagles, and eating meals in the small towns along the way. He loved his cats, and going to the movies.  Johnny enjoyed traditional country, blues, and classic rock music. He was a football fan, and enjoyed watching IU and the Indianapolis Colts.

The family invites family and friends to remember him in a casual dress celebration of life on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 12 p.m. at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Fr. Gary Kaiser officiating.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday.  Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Princeton.
