Joseph Edward Hedge, Sr., 90, of Patoka, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at his home in Patoka. He was born March 22, 1935 in Patoka, IN to the late Emery Everett Hedge and Lillie Mae (Hale) Hedge. Joe graduated from Patoka High School then proudly joined the U.S. Army. While he was in the Army, he met Beverly Minnis and true love bloomed and they married March 1, 1959. Joe worked 34 years as a train inspector and carman for what is now known as CSX Railroad. He was a member of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad Historical Society. Joe will be remembered as an amazing fisherman, especially catfish. He loved to fish and always caught the biggest fish. Joe enjoyed mushroom hunting, squirrel hunting, and working out in the garden. He was a proud Princeton Tigers fan and would always go to the local ball games. Joe was loved by all that knew him! He would always help anyone that needed it. Joe will deeply be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Larry (Phyllis) Hedge, Terry (Janet) Hedge, Mary (Ken) Hiday, Barbara Hedge, and Ron (Cathy) Hedge.
Joe is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beverly Hedge; children, Debra Travis; Joe Jr. (Tonia) Hedge, and Greg (Candy) Hedge; grandchildren, Stephanie (Dallas) Shoemaker, Billy Murphree, Robert “Bob” Murphree, Jazmin (Jeremy Davis) Whitten, Savanah (Kyle) Graff, Melanie (Erik) Sanders, Allison Hedge, Krista (Luke) Ducharme, Chayse (Cody Noble) Hedge, and Rayven Hedge; great-grandchildren, Trenton, Wysper, Will, Daimon, Brendan, Aleigha, Davey Joe, Cierra, Landyn, Luna, Saxton, Styles, Emen, Maliki, Noah, Lilly, Samuel, Eliana, Kaelynn; great-great grandchildren, Axel Joe Lee, Josie, Zayden, and NovaLeigh; and sister, Judie (Monty) Reynolds.
A funeral service will be held 12 PM Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Colvin Funeral Home with Pastor Donnie Sanders officiating. A graveside will follow at Blythe Chapel Cemetery with Military Honors given by the Retired Military Veterans. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the funeral home from 10 AM until service time.
