Josephine Caskey, 85, of Newburgh, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at home. She was born Flora Josephine Marvell on January 29, 1935 in Patoka to Eldon and Nora (Speight) Marvell. She lived with her husband, Duane in Buckskin for over 50 years before moving to Newburgh where she had lived for the past 15 years. She was a homemaker and had also done cleaning and wallpapering with her sister, Carolyn for several years. She attended Zion United Church of Christ in Newburgh and a was a former member of St. John’s Church in Buckskin. She was a member of the Eastern Star, belonged to the Doll Club of Gibson County and was a former member of the Navy Mother’s and Others Club in Princeton. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, watching Hallmark movies, playing games at Newburgh Senior Center and watching men’s and women’s IU Basketball games. She was always ready for a new adventure.
Josephine is survived by her children, Cathy Doane (Bobby) of Newburgh, Barbara Wise (Michael) of Vincennes, Stephen Caskey (Cathy) of Oakland City, Barry Caskey (Robin) of Owensville and Nora Faye Caskey-Schmits (Bobby) of Francisco; grandchildren, Anthony Doane, Alec Doane, Kara, Christopher and Kirk Wise, Miranda Caskey, Maggie Reece and Isaac Schmits; 10 great grandchildren; and sisters, Carolyn Ellerbrook of Patoka and Lucille Pauley of Princeton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane H. Caskey in 2012; grandchild, Haley Caskey; sisters, Wanda Mutchman, Mary Esarey, Martha Trader and Elnora Sollman; and brothers, Charles, Frank, Grover and Ray Marvell.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at St. John’s Church in Buckskin with Rev. Dan Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Buckskin. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service on Tuesday at the church. Due to state mandated COVID-19 regulations, the number of people inside the church will be limited to 25 to allow for social distancing and masks will be required. The service will be live streamed on Colvin Funeral Homes Facebook page.
