Larry Gene Johnson

Larry Gene Johnson, 83, passed away Friday, September 11, 2026 at Amber Manor in Petersburg. He was born November 13, 1942 in Huntingburg to the late Alva Johnson and Lucille (Shelton) Johnson and was a Spurgeon High School graduate in 1960. Larry was a farmer his whole life and when he wasn’t farming, he was watching basketball. He was a huge Purdue fan, but enjoyed watching all men’s college basketball teams play. Larry coached little league at Winslow for a number of years as well. He was loved and will be missed.

Larry is survived by his wife, Peggy (Bottoms) Johnson, who he married December 29, 1962, celebrating almost 64 years together. He is also survived by his children, Lisa Johnson and Greg Johnson (Michele); grandchildren, Jordan Gameon (Heather) and Derek Gameon (Kara); one great-grand-baby on the way; brother, Dennis Johnson; and an aunt, Ella Shelton.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Johnson.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM (CDT) Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City. Interment will follow at New Liberty Cemetery in Coe, Indiana. Visiting hours will be held from 4 until 7:00 PM (CDT) Wednesday at the funeral home.
