Lois Kay (Schroeder) Foster, 88, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at West River Health Campus in Evansville, Indiana.
Kay was born August 13, 1937 in Cowling, Illinois, to Shelley and Emily (Cowling) Schroeder.
After graduating high school, she attended Lockyear’s Business College and was one of the first employees hired at the new Alcoa plant being built in Warrick County. Kay married John G. Foster on December 9, 1961, and together they had two children. She eventually went back to work at the Gibson County Division of Family and Children, from where she retired.
Kay was an avid reader, and her involvement with the library led her to join Friends of the Library and become a volunteer for their Adult Literacy Program. One of her proudest accomplishments was teaching a local resident how to read. Kay was a member of many bridge clubs, Lady Elks, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved to travel and made many memorable trips across the US and abroad with friends and family.
Kay enjoyed being “Mimi” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always there to support everything they were involved in. They all loved spending time at her house, as did previous generations of nieces & nephews, extended family, and friends.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Grant) LaMar of Princeton; daughter-in-law, Kristi Foster of Nehalem, Oregon; granddaughter, Emily (Jason) Satterfield of Princeton; grandson, Cory (Hannah) Fougnies of Hazleton; seven great-grandchildren, Shelby and Andy Satterfield; Landon, Carson, Westin, and Baylor Fougnies, and Kimber Caringer; her brother, Richard T. Schroeder of Cowling, Illinois; sister-in-law, Peggy (Foster) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Doyle Schroeder; many brothers and sisters-in-law; her beloved husband of almost 48 years, John; and her son, John Gregory Foster.
Her beautiful smile, laughter, and seemingly ageless carefree spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, March 21, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Princeton, Indiana. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Princeton Elks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Princeton Public Library’s Friends of the Library. Condolences may be made online at www.colvinfuneralhome.com.
